Giving Back to the Next Generation of Immigrant Youth
A safe space where the youth community serves the next generation of young Minnesotan refugees and immigrants.
Our Mission
Sincerely Gen 1.5 is a student-led organization based in the Twin Cities. We strive to empower immigrant youth by eliminating educational barriers and preparing them for self-sufficient futures while creating lasting friendships.
ESL (English as a Second Language)
Our ESL classes, taught by fluent English speakers, equip learners with essential language skills needed for effective communication in all settings.
Tutoring
Our tutoring program provides students with the critical knowledge to excel academically in any subject.
Homework Help
As students ourselves, we know how challenging homework can be. Our tutors help students work through their coursework challenges and prepare for upcoming exams.
College Counseling
College applications might just be the most confusing and stressful part of high school life. Luckily, our experienced student and teacher volunteers help navigate that process.
Career Networking
It can be very daunting to think about what you want to do in the future; that is why we have career networking events where students get to meet adults working in different professions and ask questions.
Generation 1.5
Generation 1.5 is the generation of youth who currently live in the United States but were not born here and instead moved here during childhood.
“The experience of 1.5 generation immigrants, a term used to describe people who arrived in the U.S. as children and adolescents, is a unique one. Unlike their first-generation parents or U.S.-born siblings, their identity is split. They are American in many ways, sometimes in most, but not entirely” (LAist).
